PCF Gains Huge Exposure at All-Star Charity 5K

PCF One of Four Cancer Organization Beneficiaries

Santa Monica, CA, July 11, 2010 - Nearly 10,000 participants gathered as part of the 2010 MLB All-Star Game Charity 5K and Fun Run at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.  As a recently added pre-All-Star Game event, the race benefitted four cancer charities including the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).  100% of race registration fees will go directly to the four chosen cancer organizations.  The first MLB 5K was run at last year’s All-Star Game events in St. Louis.

Mike Milken, PCF Founder and prostate cancer survivor, was invited to help open the race and present medals to race winners and finishers. Milken reiterated PCF's commitment to ending death and suffering as a result of prostate cancer and told the crowd that “this is the most promising year for prostate cancer research.”

Celebrities and former MLB players attending the race and lending their support included MLB Network analyst and two-time All-Star Harold Reynolds; Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Paul Molitor; former Angels Bobby Grich and Tim Salmon; Jillian Michaels, star of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” and “Losing It With Jillian;” and Award-Winning Actress Gabrielle Union.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation had two teams in attendance, an organizational team and a community team in support of Dan Zenka, PCF’s Vice President of Communications who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April and is currently undergoing treatment (www.mynewyorkminute.org). Dan had the opportunity to meet with interested participants and survivors who wanted to know “who we were racing for.”

From the 6:30 a.m. event call-time, until the event close at 10 a.m., the PCF booth had a continuous and heavy stream of individuals engaging with the PCF team. More than 800 tee-shirts were distributed, thousands of blue ribbons and wristbands, cookbooks, mouse pads and most importantly, educational information on prostate cancer. PCF had the opportunity to meet hundreds of people whose lives have been personally touched by prostate cancer and they expressed gratitude for the accelerated research supported and funded by PCF.

More than 2.5 million American men and their families are dealing with prostate cancer. Thank you to all supporters who participated in the All-Star event to help find a cure for this disease. And, a special thank you to all Zenka's Zoomers participants.
