Immunotherapy of Prostate Cancer
- Demonstrated that Ipilimumab (Ipi) treatment, up for FDA approval (Q4 2010) for melanoma, causes T cells (a type of white blood cell) to produce a molecule, ICOS, on the cell surface in prostate cancer and melanoma patients.
- Blood tests of Ipi-treated patients indicated that those with high levels of ICOS on their T cells post-treatment survive longer. These findings will be validated in a Phase III trial.
- Three Phase III trials testing Ipilimumab in metastatic prostate cancer patients are open and accruing.
