Movember Campaign Generates $2.6 Million for PCF

Mustache community unites to change the face of men's health

Santa Monica, CA, May 18, 2011 —– The Prostate Cancer Foundation is pleased to accept a $2.6 million donation from Movember, following their most successful campaign to date. This extraordinary gift will go toward funding the most innovative, high-impact research that will “change the face of men’s health.”

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Movember and already are looking forward to the 2011 campaign this coming November,” said Jonathan W. Simons, MD, president and CEO of the foundation. “Movember raises more than just crucial funding for research. It brings awareness of this disease to the forefront and encourages men of all ages and their families and friends to talk about prostate cancer.”

Movember, which began in 2003 in Australia, is now a global charity movement with over 1 million participants. Every November 1st, hundreds of thousands of men around the world start clean-shaven and commit to growing a Mo (mustache) for 30 days. Through the power of the Mo, the Movember community raises vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically targeting cancers affecting men.

In its first four years in the U.S., Movember has raised more than $5 million for ground-breaking research supported by the Prostate Cancer Foundation. So get ready to start clean- shaven this Movember 1st and grow and groom those mustaches to help find better treatments and save lives.
