U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Issues New Recommendation on PSA
October 7, 2011--The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) today issued its draft recommendation regarding the widely used PSA (prostate specific antigen) screening method. The task force is recommending a “D” rating for PSA screenings, meaning there is “moderate or high certainty that the service has no benefit or that the harms outweigh the benefits,” according to the USPSTF website.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation is currently reviewing the full report and will issue an informed and evidence-based response on Monday, October 10, 2011.
