About Ford

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer the end of 2005. During that time his 90 year old mother (who was wheelchair bound) came to live with us. My eldest daughter and her husband were pregnant with their first child who, we found out, had a hole in her heart which was detected during a routine ultrasound. My granddaughter was born in January and when she was 4 days old had open heart surgery. They were able to repair her heart but she died from sepsis 3 weeks after she was born. We had to help plan and pay for our granddaughters funeral while scheduling a day my husband could go into surgery to have his prostate removed. This was compounded by the fact that during his biopsy he got an infection. All the while, I’m caring for his mother, trying to console a grieving daughter, grieving myself for the loss of my granddaughter and caring for two other teenage children of ours. One of the things I learned is while taking care of others, you have to take care of yourself first.
