About Holli

2013 for me was tough, as my cancerous prostate was removed radically in May of that year. I lost my right kidney due to cancer in 2007, and thought it was all over, as I had passed the magic five years. After the surgery, I went back to work after a brief recuperation, and suffered through 90 days of misery. Nothing like having to wear a pad inside depends and have to change the thing every hour or so. I still wear the things, incontinence is something I just live with. After a routine scan, I was sent to an oncologist, as my lymph nodes were enlarged. Sure enough I was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma, called the double hit variety. The regiment I was on was insane, six months of something every day. If you weren’t in the hospital, you had to be at the clinic for something. It was pure hell, and I received a stem cell transplant as a result for the lymphoma. Holli, a pretty nurse from Texas came to my aid, and cared for me the entire time I was on the chemo floor. We laughed, we cried, but most of all, we had an incredible bond. She changed her day off to perform my stem cell transplant, and did it because she wanted to. “I hung your first chemo, so I’m here to do the last.” I was so appreciative words cant describe it. I never knew her last name, and when I went back to that floor on the anniversary of my transplant, she was gone. Cancer has seemed to keep haunting me, as I’ve now survived bladder cancer twice, and possibly looking at even more. I’m grateful to have had Holli on my side, and will always remember her encouraging me each and every day. Thanks
