About Richard

Who do I care for? Honestly everyone, it’s my home life and my job. My mother has had multiple sclerosis since I was 5, my father had cancer twice, my daughter is autistic and April 2016 my husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and passed just a few days ago. Together we were warriors, fighting to keep our family together, to keep my Disney happy ending that as a little girl I was promised. We went to biweekly chemo treatments for 5 hours I’d make him laugh, eat and stay hydrated. At home change the basket bag after he vomited. Reminded him not to order ice if we went out to eat (cold aversion is a side affect), when the neuropathy started I drove to every appointment, clipped his nails and found ways for him to hold small items. After his whipple surgery in February 2017 we were stuck in Philly for 2 weeks until he could make the 3 hour drive home. Then it was cleans the wounds, packing the open areas so they could heal properly and keeping him moving so he wouldn’t loose strength or hope. Hey removed the tumor but it had already spread to his liver. As soon as he was well enough we were off again to another type of chemo. In between treatments we kept fighting to keep things normal for our 15 and 17 year old, we fought to make memories that would outshine the bad days. Rich would have a total of 3 types of chemo before the pain was too much. On January 13 he decided it was time to stop fighting and make the most of the time left. Six days later he had a seizure and didn’t wake up. On the 23rd his body finally gave out. I’m still a caregiver now, picking up the pieces and putting our smaller family back together.
