In memory of Alex Gonik

b. July 10, 1938 – d. June 7, 2014

Thank you for considering a donation to the PCF in memory of my Dad, Alex Gonik. Alex was a devoted Son, Husband, Father, and Grandfather.

After first being diagnosed at the age of 60, Alex fought for 15 years to beat prostate cancer and, unfortunately, modern medicine ran out of answers early this year. Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of our patriarch, and there remains a deep void in our hearts.

Alex was a heroic figure who immigrated to the US from the Soviet Union at the age of 40, worked for the same company for over 35 years, helped friends and family move to the US, took care of an aging mother, and was loved and respected by the Russian community in Boston. He had tremendous character, was hard-working, and possessed an unwavering commitment to helping those in need.

Alex’s outgoing personality and quick sense of humor were the top attraction at parties, and he enjoyed engaging friends and strangers alike in politics and the Boston sports scene. He grew up on the Black Sea and loved being close to the ocean, finding solace in the salt water air.

He leaves behind a wife, son, daughter in law, and three granddaughters. He was a real Mensch! We will miss him!
