Eugene “Gene” Dewees Traganza, 86, of Monterey, CA, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014. He was born on March 6, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA.
Gene conducted research and taught Chemical Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, for half of his 30-year career. He held a Ph.D. from University of Miami and was a Professor Emeritus. He was a resident of Monterey for 44 years. Gene served in the United States Army in both WWII (Italy) and the Korean War.
Gene was an accomplished artist, painter, and avid supporter of the Carmel Bach Festival. He was a regular attendee of his Men’s Bible study group for nearly 40 years.
Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ann Traganza; his sons Fredrick Eugene Traganza of San Diego, CA, William Thomas Traganza of San Diego, CA, and Adam Russell Traganza of Phoenix, AZ; and his 5 grandchildren.
