Lloyd Sakakihara passed away at home in San Diego on August 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife Maxine, son Greg, and brothers Marvin, Bruce, and Dean. He was born on February 22, 1948 in Sacramento, CA, the first son of the late Nellie and Harry Sakakihara.
Lloyd was elected Student Body President and Boys State Representative for Grant Union High School. He received a scholarship to UC Davis and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering, and he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He received a MBA in Business from San Francisco State University.
Lloyd’s first job was with Caltrans in San Francisco. In 1974, Lloyd went to work for the U.S. Department of the Navy as a civilian in San Bruno, CA. During his career, he and his family moved to Washington, DC, back to San Bruno, to San Diego, to Naples, Italy, and finally back to San Diego. During those years, Lloyd moved quickly up the ranks, mainly in the project management branch. He ended his career as Comptroller.
He retired in 2005, and during his retirement, he played golf, attended Charger tailgates, hosted his monthly poker games, and fished with Maxine’s sisters. Lloyd and Maxine also traveled to many places such as China, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. They went on cruises with his brothers and their wives, Dean and Tracie and Marvin and Jean.
