Entered into rest Friday, June 19, 2015, Dr. Thomas “Tom” Smith, 61, fought metastatic prostate cancer for two years with a quiet grace that he derived from his strong faith.
Dr. Smith was a native of Blairsville, PA. He was in private practice in Augusta since 1982 and also worked for the VA hospital for 25 years. Dr. Smith took his passion for podiatric education around the world as a lecturer, teacher, and mentor. He was a faculty member of the Podiatry Institute in Atlanta, GA, and served two times as the President of the Georgia Podiatric Medical Association.
Dad was greatly devoted to his family. Dad was a little league coach, an Assistant Scout Master, and a board member of Aquinas High School. He was an Eagle Scout, a 4th Degree Terence Cardinal Cooke Council Knights of Columbus #8495 member, and a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church for more than 30 years. He is greatly missed by his wife, son, two daughters, and daughter-in-law.
His three life passions were his family, his teaching and his faith. These three passions, in turn, became his legacies that he was able to instill in everyone who knew him.
