Many vs Cancer, the First Major Global Crowdfunding Initiative to Defeat Prostate Cancer, Launches Today
Prostate Cancer Foundation's Movement Will Accelerate Research and Cures for Cancer that Affects 3 Million Men in U.S.

LOS ANGELES, May 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) today announced the launch of Many vs Cancer (MvC), its first global fundraising initiative that is harnessing the collective power of those touched by prostate cancer with the scientists working to defeat it.

MvC aims to empower patients, family members, caregivers, friends, neighbors and supporters to fund critical prostate cancer research by crowdfunding donations through innovative new community engagement tools and campaigns. Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in men, affecting three million in the U.S. and 14 million worldwide.

“Many vs Cancer represents the final push to defeat prostate cancer once and for all. PCF has raised more than $700 million for prostate cancer research to date, which has resulted in great strides and decreased the death rate in prostate cancer by 52 percent so far,” said Jonathan W. Simons, MD, PCF president and CEO. “We are on the cusp of defeating this deadly disease. We know what has to be done to get us to the finish line and now it’s simply a matter of money. We also know that the defeat of prostate cancer will result in cures for 16 other cancers that have genetic similarities.”

There are many ways to support MvC, including curefunding a University of California, Los Angeles research project led by Matthew Rettig, MD. The funds raised will directly support his efforts to develop a novel and inexpensive cell capture. You can also create personal fundraising pages to collect donations, organize fundraising events – such as bake sales and sports tournaments – or donate directly to MvC.

“I’m honored to be chosen as the first research project that Many vs Cancer will be supporting,” said Matthew Rettig, professor of Medicine and Urology and medical director of the Prostate Cancer Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. “The work we are doing at UCLA will help researchers create more informed precision treatment strategies that will improve the quality and extend the lives of those suffering from prostate cancer.”
