2012: A Celebration of Science

Announcement Date: January 1, 2012

PCF further expands internationally with its first two Young Investigator Awards in China.

The FDA approves a fifth new treatment for prostate cancer – Xtandi, used for Lupron-resistant disease, reduces PSA levels up to 89% after one month.

And in September, PCF helps organize a first-of-its-kind event in Washington, D.C. – the Celebration of Science (COS).

The goal of COS is to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to medical research. Hosted by FasterCures, the event convenes more than 1,000 leaders in medical research, bioscience, patient advocacy, industry, philanthropy and public policy. A bipartisan group of senior members of Congress, including Majority Leaders of the Senate and House (Harry Reid and Eric Cantor, respectively), also participate.

The event is held on the campus of George Washington University, at the Bethesda headquarters of the NIH and with a special evening at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed article on the opening day of the conference, Mike cites “an important role for government in fostering basic science.”
