  • Rockies Edge Giants; Add to Win Total
    • The Colorado Rockies staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the San Francisco Giants 8–7 on Thursday afternoon at Coors Field, clinching their first walk-off win of the season. Trailing 7–2 in the fifth inning, the Rockies rallied behind a late-game surge that culminated in a two-out, two-run single by COL SS Orlando Arcia in the bottom of the ninth. The Giants, who had controlled much of the game thanks to SF LF Dominic Smith’s three-run homer—his first as a Giant—and a solid outing from starter SF SP Hayden Birdsong, saw their bullpen unravel late. Key defensive miscues, including an error by Casey Schmitt and a costly misplay by SF 1B Heliot Ramos, helped fuel San Francisco’s momentum. However, it wasn’t enough to halt the Rockies’ comeback. COL OF Mickey Moniak and COL 2B Thairo Estrada, former Giant, had standout games offensively for the Rockies, each recording multiple hits. The win snapped Colorado’s five-game losing streak and improved their record to 13–55, marking the worst 67-game start in the majors since 1932. Meanwhile, the loss ended the Giants’ streak of one-run decisions and dropped them to 40–29, just behind the idle Dodgers in the NL West standings.
    • Colorado is now 13-55 and sits in 5th place in the NL West.
    • San Francisco is now 40-29 and sits in 2nd place in the NL West.
  • Rangers Pour it On: Beat Twins
    • On Thursday, the Texas Rangers delivered an offensive masterclass, demolishing the Minnesota Twins 16–3 in Minneapolis. The Rangers matched their season-high run total, fueled by a relentless power surge that included six home runs. The Rangers OF trio Wyatt Langford, Adolis Garcia, and Sam Haggerty each amazingly launched three-run shots, while INF Josh Smith, 3B Jake Burger, and OF Evan Carter added solo blasts. 6 total home runs is the Texas jumped on Minnesota starter Bailey Ober early, tagging him for four homers before he was pulled in the fifth inning. TEX Patrick Corbin secured his first win since mid-May, pitching 5⅓ innings and allowing just three runs. The win capped a tough nine-game road trip for Texas with a 4–5 record, giving them a momentum-shifting victory to open the series. Meanwhile, the Twins were left reeling, unable to keep pace with the Rangers’ relentless offensive barrage.
    • Texas is now 33-34 and sits in 3rd place in the AL West.
    • Minnesota is now 36-32 and sits in 2nd place in the AL Central.
  •  Mets Welcome HRC Team; Get Started Hot
    • The Mets welcomed the HRC Crew to Citi Field today, and they must have gotten the memo that we need home runs, as the New York Mets jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when NYM 2B Jeff McNeil crushed a three-run homer to right field, scoring SS Francisco Lindor and OF Juan Soto. That blast gave the Mets a quick 3–0 advantage. They extended their lead in the fifth when NYM OF Brandon Nimmo launched a solo shot, making it 4–0. For most of the game, Mets starter David Peterson was in complete control, holding the Nationals scoreless through eight innings with a brilliant performance. However, the Nationals mounted a dramatic ninth-inning rally. WAS SS CJ Abrams led off with a hit and scored on a single to right by 2B Luis García Jr., putting Washington on the board. WAS 1B Josh Bell followed with a single to center, driving in OF James Wood. Then, with the bases loaded and one out, 2B García Jr. came home on a passed ball by Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, narrowing the lead to 4–3. Despite the scare, Mets SP Peterson managed to escape the jam and finish the game, securing a complete-game win as the Mets held on for the narrow victory.
    • New York (M) is now 45-24 and sits in 1st place the NL East.
    • Washington is now 30-38 and sits in 3rd place in the NL East.
  • Orioles Host 2nd Half of Doubleheader; Tigers Prevail
    • On the 2nd part of the doubleheader, the Orioles welcomed HRC Crew to Camden Yards – another one of the best venues in sports, let alone baseball. The HRC crew did not bring the good luck like they did in the first game, however, as the Tigers got the 4-1 victory over the Orioles to clinch the series 2- 1. The game was highlighted by a masterful performance from starting pitcher Tarik Skubal, who threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six. The Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Dillon Dingler launched a solo home run, followed shortly by Parker Meadows’ three-run blast—his first homer of the season—which gave Detroit a commanding 4–0 lead. Baltimore’s only run came in the eighth inning via a solo shot from Dylan Carlson, but the Tigers’ bullpen, anchored by Tommy Kahnle and Will Vest, shut the door. Vest earned his 12th save of the season. The Orioles had previously dominated Game 2 of the series with a 10–1 blowout behind Zach Eflin’s strong outing, but Detroit responded in Game 3 with resilience and timely hitting, reaffirming their strong bullpen support and starting pitching depth.
    • Baltimore is now 27-40 and sits in 5th place in the AL East.
    • Detroit is now 45-25 and sits in 1st place in the AL Central.
  • Cubs Edge Pirates in NL Central Matchup
    • On Thursday at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 3–2 in a tightly contested matchup, propelled by stellar pitching and timely power hitting. CHC SP Jameson Taillon continued his impressive run, earning his fifth consecutive win by tossing 6⅓ strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out seven. The Cubs’ offense was efficient, with all three of their runs coming via the long ball. CHC OF Pete Crow-Armstrong broke the scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the fourth inning—his team-leading 18th of the season—while CHC OF Seiya Suzuki added what proved to be the game-winner with a solo blast in the sixth, his 17th. Pirates starter Andrew Heaney matched up well through six innings, also fanning seven, but was tagged for all three runs. The Pirates mounted a minor rally in the seventh with an RBI double from PIT 2B Adam Frazier, but their offense stalled, finishing with just four hits on the night. Chicago’s bullpen shut the door with three perfect innings from CHC RP Brad Keller, RP Daniel Palencia, and closer Ryan Pressly, who earned his fifth save. The win marked a strong start to a 10-game homestand for the Cubs, while the Pirates couldn’t put it together despite solid pitching and flashes of clutch hitting.
    • Chicago is now 42-27 and sits in 1st place in the NL Central.
    • Pittsburgh is 28-42 and sits in 5th place in the NL Central.

Other Fun Facts:

  • The 2019 Atlanta Braves hit more home runs in the month of June – 56 – than any other team in history.
  • In 2017, the Cincinnati Reds Scooter Gennett became one of the unlikeliest players to hit four home runs in a single game; Gennett hit his record-tying home runs in an HRC game.
  • The Atlanta Braves (2023) and Minnesota Twins (2019) hit 307 home runs each in a single season, more than any team in history.
  • Babe Ruth led the American League in home runs 12 times; the first time was in 1918 when he hit 11 home runs (and won 13 games as a pitcher).
  • In 2021, Miguel Cabrera became the last MLB player to top 500 home runs; 34-year-old Giancarlo Stanton is the current active leader with 408.
  • Mark McGwire hit more home runs per at bat – 10.61 – than any player in history. Aaron Judge (11.9) and Pete Alonso (13.27) have the best ratios among current players.
  • Sammy Sosa has 3 of the 6 seasons with the most HRs hit, hitting 66 in 1998, 63 in 1999, and 64 in 2001. However, he never once lead the major leagues in home runs. Despite his prowess as a power hitter, he was surpassed in all 3 seasons, in the 1998-99 seasons by Mark McGwire, and in 2001 by Barry Bonds.
  • Weirdly enough, no one has ever hit 55 HRs in a season.
  • Hitting a grand slam is incredibly impressive enough. Hitting multiple in the same game is nearly unheard of. Even more absurd, multiple grand slams in the same inning? Only one player has accomplished that feat – and that is Fernando Tatis. On April 23rd, 1999, he hit two grand slams as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, facing the Los Angeles Dodgers that day. His son, Fernando Tatis Jr, is now a superstar outfielder for the San Diego Padres.
  • The first Home Run was hit by the Chicago White Stockings infielder, Ross Barnes, on May 2, 1876. Despite being nearly 150 years ago, the Chicago White Stockings are still an MLB team – but not the White Sox. The White Stockings actually became the Chicago Cubs.
  • Andy “Pepper” Oyler, known as a small player, had the shortest home run in baseball history – an [astonishing] 24-inch home run. As the story goes, the weather conditions in Minnesota were a that day, and the hard-hit ball went directly into the mud in front of the plate. By the time they had found the ball, Oyler had cleared the bases, for an inside the park home run.
  • What’s perhaps more impressive than hitting any Home Run or Grand Slam?Robbing one! How about Mike Cameron, former All-Star and gold glover, known as being one of the only players to amass 250 home runs and 250 steals in their career. On May 2, 2002, not only did he hit 4 Home Runs in the game, with his 5th hit missing the wall by just feet, making it all the way to the warning track, he also robbed a home run.
