How to Help Someone You Love Check the Box

Simple, supportive conversations can make a powerful difference. Research shows men are more likely to get screened when encouraged by someone they trust.

Here are ways to take action:

  • Speak with care and honesty; encourage screening without pressure
  • If he hesitates, ask him to do it for your sake
  • Help him find a primary care provider if he doesn’t have one
  • Assist with scheduling an annual checkup
  • Help arrange a separate screening appointment if needed
  • Support him in asking his doctor about a PSA test
  • Offer to accompany him to appointments if helpful
  • Share resources for free or low-cost PSA screenings, such as local health departments, federally funded health centers, free clinics, or health fairs or cancer screening events
