When is it Time to Check the Box?
Start the conversation early, before any symptoms appear, so screening is proactive rather than reactive.
PCF recommends regular PSA screening:
- Starting at age 45 for most men
- Starting at 40 if he has risk factors.
Risk factors include:
- Being a Black man
- Family member on either side with prostate, breast, ovarian, or pancreatic cancer
- Family member on either side who has a gene change like BRCA that increases prostate cancer risk
Starting these conversations at the right time supports earlier detection and better outcomes. And if your loved one is older, don’t worry – it’s not too late for him to be screened.
