Every year, 15,000 more veterans are diagnosed with prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are partnering to prevent, screen and promote research to speed the development of treatments and cures for prostate cancer among veterans.

The John and Daria Barry Foundation has made a $2.5 Million Gift to the prostate cancer foundation to establish a new precision oncology center of excellence service U.S. veterans at the Manhattan VA. The John and Daria Barry Precision Oncology Center of Excellence at the Manhattan Campus of the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System (VANYHHS will serve as a precision oncology hub and address the clinical needs of Veterans currently battling prostate cancer in the New York metropolitan area and beyond. What is the promise of the PCF/VA precision oncology collaboration? “Cures,” says PCF CEO and Dr. Jonathan Simons. Here’s just one example. As part of the PCF/VA collaboration, PCF funded researcher, Dr. Bruce Montgomery, performed deep genetic sequencing of patient Christopher Seelye’s cancer; the resulting drug regimen created an extraordinary response for his metastatic disease… taking him from a PSA of 200 to 1, and moving his metastatic scans to clear.
