Inside the Labs Chasing a Cure

For Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we brought our community three conversations with researchers whose work is changing what a prostate cancer diagnosis means.

Dr. Himisha Beltran shared what PCF funding made possible in her lab, Dr. Colin Pritchard explained the genetics that determine who is at risk and how we find them earlier, and Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan described how his team’s gene fusion discovery led to a urine test that helps men with an elevated PSA learn whether a biopsy is actually necessary.

Their work is a reminder of how much can change when research gets funded early. And speaking of what protects your health, our trivia question below tests whether you know which habit didn’t make our list.

Genetic Testing and Prostate Cancer

Wednesday, October 14 | 7:00 PM Eastern

For patients with high-risk or advanced prostate cancer, genetic testing can help shape treatment decisions. There are two types: germline genetic and somatic testing. Family cancer history can factor into whether testing makes sense for you.

Our experts will explain both tests, why doing both matters, and how to raise the subject with your doctor. They will also walk through PCF’s free online guide to germline genetic and somatic testing, a resource you can return to whenever you need it.
