A Message From Our CEO, Dr. Jonathan Simons

To our entire PCF community…

Leading PCF for 14 years and collaborating with Mike Milken, the Board of Directors, our exceptional staff, the many researchers and physicians who share our vision for advancing cancer cures, and men and their loved ones who inspire our mission has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my professional career. With deep gratitude for all the joys and accomplishments we have shared over the years, I am now ready to begin a new chapter in my professional life as Chief Science Officer and Medical Director of the Marcus Foundation in Atlanta, beginning August 1, 2021.

I have always believed a leader is only as effective as the team he or she has to work with, and I have been honored to partner with the very best. The team that will continue to helm PCF is comprised of top-notch professionals, with a shared commitment to excellence, unrivaled in their expertise and precision in fulfilling PCF’s mission. Dr. Howard Soule, Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer, will serve as the interim President and CEO of PCF, enabling a seamless leadership transition toward continued growth and an even brighter future.

My opportunity with The Marcus Foundation, created by The Home Depot founder and former CEO Bernie Marcus, is to lead a new philanthropic academic medical research investment program focused on investing in non-profit, first-in-field teams of academic, innovative translational researchers. Modeled on the PCF Challenge Award program that has propelled 16 FDA approvals in recent years for prostate cancer, the Marcus Foundation’s goal is to advance new precision therapies for cancer, diagnostics and treatments for childhood autism, and novel approaches to stem cell therapies and regenerative medicine.

The Marcus Foundation will have many potential synergistic research and development project interests with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Milken Institute’s FasterCures efforts in the coming years. Professionally, I have learned so much from Mike Milken’s genius, goodness, mentorship and friendship. With humility, I feel primed to take this new position with Marcus and join PCF’s Board of Directors to continue our good work together.

I am deeply grateful for all the joy and achievements that have come into my professional life working with you and for you at PCF, and look ahead to fostering more scientific collaboration, and moving the needle on our shared mission to end cancer and save lives.

Very respectfully and in enduring gratitude,

Jonathan
