PCF Team Science
Building the best teams to fight prostate cancer
Like a super hero team brought together to save the world, the Prostate Cancer Foundation has led the charge to bring together the best and brightest cancer doctors, oncologists, and researchers. Team Science, as it has come to be known, is our network of doctors who share their research and work together in our fight against prostate cancer. You see, after determining that prostate cancer treatments were in a bleak state 25 years ago, PCF created Team Science to accelerate positive change and help save all men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
And that’s a lot of men: 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his life, and over 29,000 men will die of prostate cancer in 2018. But, times have changed and the way that research has been funded and directed has also changed, due in large part to the work of PCF and PCF-funded researchers. Now, if a man is diagnosed early, he has a 99% change of surviving at least five years.
How has PCF led that change? We rely primarily on private contributions, that we use to award funds to the world’s most promising researchers. Once funded, these researchers become a part of Team Science and have to share their research with others to accelerate the time it takes to create treatments. We’ve recruited hundreds of the best minds in prostate cancer research, leading to many new prostate cancer treatments and drugs, and someday, hopefully soon, a cure for prostate cancer.
Through your donations, PCF has and will continue to strive to save every man diagnosed with prostate cancer.
