In memory of Alvin Sodell

Thank you for donating in honor of our father, Alvin Sodell. Alvin – known to all as “Al” was born on February 25, 1926 in New York City and grew up there. Dad lived in Sullivan County, NY for more than 25 years and was a long time resident of Coconut Creek, FL. He succumbed to prostate cancer on March 7th 2012 in Richmond, VA, where we were grateful to have him live nearby for the past year. He was 86. Al was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Navy’s Pacific theatre in salvage operations. Prior to retirement he pursued several careers that allowed him to interact with people from all walks of life, among them taxi driver, car salesman, and clothing salesman. In retirement, he enjoyed a rich social life with his friends that included golf and ballroom dancing. His wife of 27 years, Velda (Abel) Sodell, a Jeffersonville, NY native, predeceased him in 1985. Those left behind to carry on his memory include his daughter Deborah Grimm Saccacio (Philip) of Afton, VA and his son Lorin Sodell (Janet) of Quinton, VA; grandchildren: Jennifer Liddy (John), Tracey Hammond (Andrew), Thomas Grimm (Noelle), and James Grimm (Karen), and eight great-grandchildren.

Our thanks go out to all of dad’s friends in New York, Florida, and Virginia; as well as the nurses and doctors in the Richmond area who made this journey easier for Dad. The photo we’ve included pretty much sums up our dad – big smile, a plate of Italian food, and a bright green shirt with the napkin tucked in. We love you and miss you very much.
