In memory of Hilbert John Bartels

March 15, 1941 – November 23, 2013

Beloved father, husband, and friend to many.

Hilbert passed away at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA, on Saturday, November 23rd, at 6:29pm, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Hilversum, Holland, the son of Johanna and John Bartels. The family moved to Belgium during the Second World War, where his father was decorated for his work in the underground. It was then that his passion for flying and aviation began. They then moved to Los Angeles, California, where he graduated from Culver City High School in 1957 at age 18. He attended UCLA for 4 years.

Hilbert spent his life in aviation and boating, his two main passions. He was successful at running several businesses, including TASCO after a decade of working at Emerson Electronics. During the TASCO years he supplied a lot of electronics used in Flight Testing of new Boeing airplanes. He was also a pilot and used his twin engine airplane for both business and pleasure.

Boating became more of a passion in his later years at which time he purchased a 1944 97-foot tugboat called the Island Champion which became a lifelong project. He even had his TASCO office located on the tug for a time.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne; sons John, Dan, and Colin; his daughter Ann; and his 3 grandchildren Giana, Steven, and Sarah.

Hilbert’s heart, personality, smile, and laugh will be missed by all. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be forever loved and appreciated for all that he did and all that he was.
