Regis C. Serene, 72, of Wilmington, NC, left his family and friends, with his suit of integrity, to go to his Heavenly home on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. He was a loyal, trustworthy, and loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all.
Regis was born May 6, 1943, in Fresno, CA, son of the late Charles H. and Mary D. Serene. He graduated from Duquesne University in 1965, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and was a member of the Sigma Chi Theta fraternity. He graduated from the U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1966 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service at Ft. Sill Artillery and Missile School.
Regis retired from DuPont after working in Circleville, OH, Wilmington, DE, Wilmington, NC, and Charlotte, NC. He subsequently retired from Corning in Wilmington, NC. Then he was self-employed as an independent technology consultant. He was appointed two terms on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Literacy, and established North Carolina literacy definition and other initiatives.
Regis served on the Business Advisory Board of Cape Fear Community College, served on UNCW’s Business School’s Technology Advisory Board, and was a Board member of NAMI Wilmington. Regis also was an active member of Harbor United Methodist Church, co-founder of the former Cape Fear Employees Credit Union, and served on client rights committee at Strategic Behavioral Health.
