Project Title:

Single cell circulating tumor cell analysis to identify mechanisms of enzalutamide resistance in metastatic prostate cancer patients

Project Overview:

Approximately one-third of patients with newly diagnosed metastatic prostate cancer do not achieve undetectable PSA levels following treatment with standard of care treatments such as enzalutamide plus ADT, and these patients have very poor outcomes. Dr. Alumkal and team will develop a blood-based biomarker test using CTCs that can identify patients who are more likely to respond to enzalutamide vs. are at higher risk for disease progression and developing NEPC. This can be used to determine which patients should undergo standard treatments and which may have more benefit on clinical trials testing treatments that target mechanisms of disease progression and NEPC.
