About Dave B

Dave was turning 60 and I requested he get a complete physical as he had always been healthy and I thought a baseline at 60 was a good idea as he aged. He agreed and a few days after his birthday, he went. The very next day the Dr called and sent him to a urologist. The next week he was sent to an oncologist. In a matter of a week, Dave went from a healthy, vibrant man to stage 4 prostate cancer patient. To say we were stunned is an understatement. The best approach for treatment was Provenge. At the time he was first in our state to receive the treatment. He was not a candidate for surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. Without all details of the treatment, he made it 22 months. We had always had a solid marriage and great friendship and love. We raised 3 kids in a happy home. What amazed me the most was as close as we were through our entire marriage, we became even closer during hospice. I thought we had talked about everything during our 33 year marriage. No subject was off the table now We talked about the children and how we were now on separate journeys during this time. There were unknowns for both of us and we supported each other the best we knew how. Dave had an opportunity to speak with each one of the children separately. Whatever was said has not been shared to this very day. He told me the best way to honor our marriage was to continue to go on living each and every day and be as happy as our marriage was. He called me his strong, tough hero taking care of him during hospice. Dave was the strong, tough hero going through those rough days at the end and no complaints. He did not want to leave us and hung on as long as he could and always trying to put his family first. He was a friend to everyone he met. Dave is missed by many. He will never be forgotten.
