About Thomas E.

My story starts in 2014 with esophageal cancer, with rad/chemo and surgery, followed in 2015 with prostate cancer, with radiation and hormone treatment, and then in 2017 a lung biopsy for a spot in my left lung that they thought was a rouge EC cancer cell with surgery, After all of this I am cancer free today. My caregiver is my wife, Patricia, who has been my soulmate for more than 55 years, 50 years married in June, 2019. What she went through, put up with, and survived over these last 5 years is the reason I am here today. She was my nurse, my confidante, my sounding board, and my everything else. She had no life besides taking care of me, attending doctors appointments, getting answers to questions, taking care of meds, meals, and other needs I had. She never complained once nor showed any level of frustration through it all and I gave her plenty of chances to do so. She helped me keep my focus on getting better, which meant everything to me. She became my HOPE and made sure that I kept my belief in the future and getting better. As I stated earlier, we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary in June, 2019. She is 99.9% the reason I will be able to be here for that day. Oh hell, she is 100% the reason. My wife has taken every challenge I have given her and handled them with courage and grace. She has allowed me to concentrate completely on my diseases and recovery which I believe is why I am cancer free today. A little luck has helped. I would like to nominate my wife, Patricia, for consideration of this award as a way to express my love and appreciation for her care and effort. I cannot imagine life without her beside me. Thank you for your consideration and for making this award possible for caregivers.
